RTI Rap

Lyrics:
This is a story all about why
You've heard this term RTI
We'd like to take a minute just sit right there
We'll explain it all now, so you'll be aware

In "response to intervention," RTI,
We monitor your kid- so no one slips by!
Assessing all students for academic risk
In subjects like reading, writing, math, and early lit
There are a few tiers they may go through
We'll tell ya each tier and what they have ta' do
We'll start with Tier 1 cause' all kids go there
With universal screening three times a year!

There are certain benchmarks for every grade
To test students' skills and how they behave
If they make the mark Tier 1s for them
Where they'll get evidence based instruction
If EBI isn't enough,
More intense progress monitoring should be done,

In Tier 2 learn in groups of 3 or 5,
See if more direct instruction is where they'll thrive,
20-30 minutes 3 or 4 times a week (for 10 wizeeks)
Extra instruction could help them reach their peak!

If your child isn't making progress yet
Tier 3 instruction could be their next, best bet
More intensive instruction in groups of 1 or 2
And only a specialist or pro will do
Customized interventions to meet your child's needs,
At least 30 minutes, 5 times a week (for 10 wizeeks)

If they are working hard and still aren't progressing
We might need permission to do some more testing

The tests used to assess are CBMs
Curriculum Based Measures, as we call them!
Widely used universal screening tools for basic academic skills -- WHAT?!
What she meant ta say was that they track progrizzle (progress)
Sometimes using Aimsweb or dibba dabba Dibels

Now ya know what, but ya gotta know when
That depends upon what tier they're in!
Tier 1- benchmarks 3 times a year
Tier 2- Twice a month is what they do!
Tier 3? Yup! That's every week!

Look at you parents! You're finally there!
RTI Extraordinaires!
