Specific Interests Help Motivate

http://www.classroomfreebies.com/2011/11/behavior-and-classroom-management.html

I liked this method of behavioral and classroom management.  I would even take it a step further by making one the step specific to an individual child. For example, a child that enjoyed basketball could when earned 20 points, go play basketball for 10 minutes.  Something to really engage the student to want to have the positive behavior that doesn't involve food or a type of treat.

My Do's and Don'ts List

This link would be something that I would have on my desk or in a drawer I open often. It would be something I could look at throughout the day to remember what I'm really here for and what I want to accomplish.

Nobody is Perfect

This website helps teachers deal with their own flaws in behavioral discipline. It talks about the some of the principles of the 11 maladaptive approaches to which teachers are susceptible when dealing with challenging behaviors in the classroom. The information is not only important to a teacher but all adults that deal with children on a regular basis, including parents.  http://www.childadolescentbehavior.com/sample-articles/challenging-classroom-behavior-approaches-guiding-teacher.aspx

Who can Manage Challenging Adolescent Behavior

The information on this site helps understand how to talk to the student and the proper steps to inform the student that his or her behavior is inappropriate. The paragraph dealing with preventing behavior seems the most beneficial.  Making sure students are engaged and learning (not just busy work) will help cut down on negative behavior. http://www.ehow.com/how_7393948_manage-challenging-adolescent-behavior-classroom.html

Teachers must "win their students' hearts while getting inside their students' heads."

This article deals with the importance of relationship building and different strategies to reach that level of trust and commitment. Building empathy and admiring negative behaviors and attitudes are different ways to reach the students. The best section is “Leaving the Ego at the Door.” Not taking situations or slights made personal is a huge issue that teachers face everyday.
